Three outstandingly beautiful hiking tours - Hochwaldweg Forest Trail, Hochbühelweg Hill Trail, Vogelstimmenweg Bird Trail - are waiting for you to be discovered in Peilstein and its picturesque surroundings. Take a rest at one of the natural biotopes or admire the scenic "Sausende Schlucht" gorge with its crystal clear brooks.
Peilstein is also famous for the long-distance "Böhmerwald Loop Trail" that meanders across Bohemian Forest and for the wonderful "Falkensteinerweg Trail".
The lovely market town is towering high above the Kleine Mühl valley, overlooking the scenic Bohemian Forest.
Peilstein and its immediate surroundings have become a truly unique nature treasure due to the 30 biotopes built during the last few years. Six of them are open to the public: Häuslin, Sausende Schlucht, Hofwiese, Hemmerau, Wäschbachl and Blumau. The marvelous nature preserve covers a total area of 20 hectares and boasts an infinite number of animals and flowers, among them the endangered and almost extinct Alpine newt.
Walk into a winter wonderland on cleared trails that are designated for winter walking. Can it get anymore romantic than strolling across snow laden forests? Afterwards, you can warm yourself up and gather new strength at one of area´s friendly inns and restaurants.
Those wanting to burn up some extra energy can ski the local family terrain, serviced by a surface lift, or explore the nearby Hochficht Ski Area (20km).
At Rinnmühle Mill, there´s slopeside access to the scenic 8K Mühltal Valley cross country ski track, that winds along "Kleine Mühl" river to Sixlmühle Mill with the loop bringing you back on the other bank of the river. It´s secluded and quiet and well maintained. The trail is perfect for novice, intermediate, and expert Nordic skiers.
Or bundle up and take a spin on the ice skating rink! The frozen pond at Rinnmühle Mill features a variety of ice curling alleys and a separate pond for ice skating. Three indoor asphalt curling alleys are available as well.
